Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a first grade teacher in Florida. I work at a charter school that serves the surrounding high-need community.
From reading to math, my students excel when they are given a chance to learn using objects. Unfortunately, my charter school has limited resources to help them reach their big learning goals, and many of my students entered the school year significantly below grade level.
I firmly believe that tactile literacy center games and math manipulatives will propel my students forward in their learning. As they practice their reading comprehension and phonics skills in our literacy centers, I literally see their faces change with understanding. I know that literacy games allow my students to touch, move, and connect sounds, letters, and pictures will only enhance their learning.
In math, their scores and interest dramatically shoot up whenever they see their beloved box of red and yellow counters and snap cubes. (In fact, some students are so intrigued by my few manipulatives that they voluntarily stay back from their specials in order to give themselves more math problems!)
With your help, my students will be able to achieve the extraordinary growth necessary to reach the big goals that we've set for our class: over two years of growth in reading and 80% mastery in math. As my students chant, Si, Se puede, Si, Si, Se Puede! (We can do it!). With your help, I know we can and we will.
