My Students

This is an exciting year in first grade! We are an amazing class of vivacious learners and we are jumping into the year feet first.

This year we are working on changing our mindset on what learning can look like in the classroom.

This means that students sit where their brains learn best! This could be on the floor, at a bicycle desk, or at a wobble stool. We are also working on creating independent learners through technology. Technology is an excellent scaffold that can make independent learning experiences successful. As teachers, we are committed to shaking up the norm and providing our students what they need to learn best.

My Project

It is my deep desire to speak to my students using their native language, technology. I want it to be a meaningful ritual in our classroom where students use technology as a tool to take their expression of content understanding to new and incredible heights. I strongly believe that technology can be used to create creative and independent problem solvers. It is my plan to use Apple’s user-friendly and cross system compatible interface to drive my students forward on their path to higher learning.

Research shows that digital literacy is just as important as its more traditional counterpart.

The students who walk our halls today will create and participate in fields that have not even been created yet. This means that it is our duty as educators to arm them with the tools they will need to be successful in this new and evolving world. I want our students to be bloggers, digital authors, poets, and responsible consumers of social media as much as I want them to decode, critically examine, and create works of literature. Technology is the new branch of literacy and deserves to have a place in our classrooms. Together we are forming the minds that will form the future and they need to be just as literate in today’s technology as they are in printed text.

I am asking for six iPads so that I can create a blended classroom environment through Nearpod, Flipgrid, Educreations, and other educational technology applications. I want my students to keep digital portfolios of their work so we can improve goal setting and independence. The implications for this project are endless and if our class could be provided with the tools that we need to be successful we would be simply astonishing.
