My students are from the town and surrounding area of Kapa'a. Most of the students have attended Kapa'a since Kindergarten. Kapa'a Elementary is a Title 1 school where homelessness and hunger are not uncommon.
I hope to prepare my students for the 21st century with the tools they need to be contributing community members.
Any assistance to help families, many of whom have struggled in school themselves, is appreciated. My students are kind, sweet, and excited about school. They know this is a safe place to learn, grow, and even make mistakes.
My Project
Many of the students don't have access to computers at home, so increasing student computer usage time is vitally important.
With these iPad minis, we will be able to add more one-on-one time to work on needed reading and math programs.
Kapa'a Elementary has invested in some great programs, including Smarty Ants and Lexia, to help students who are struggling academically. However, we don't want to add any more standard computers to the classroom as this will decrease the space available for other centers (Library, science, reading, social/games). By increasing the number of computers we have available in our room, without taking away space for other centers, we can work towards creating more one-on-one computer time for the students.
