This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Currently there are twenty-three students who I have the pleasure of teaching and learning from. I strive each day to provide a fun learning environment so that the students can enjoy being at school. This can be a challenge with all the different learning styles and needed differentiation in the lesson.
I teach students who go to a Title One school and many come from low income families.
They are hard working students who don't have access to a variety of resources, including technology to facilitate their learning. My students are enthusiastic learners who enjoy coming to school.
Each day I like to help them strive to reach their full potential.
I believe in my students and constantly tell them to believe in their selves.
My Project
Each of these materials allow the students to truly touch their math! This is important because in our school district, less than thirty percent are said to be proficient in math! Providing fun and alternative ways of learning such as quiz cards, power pens and puzzles will increase the chance of the students retaining the information.
In the fourth grade, the students are required to pass a math proficiency test in order to be promoted.
So, building their mental math tool kits at a young age will increase their chances of success!
These materials will allow my students to build their confidence around math while also increasing their knowledge. It is my hope that my students will be able to engage and relate to the material presented in school with the aid of these materials. As a teacher, I will fight to show my students the world beyond our classroom. I cannot do this without your help!
