Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are an urban high school that has a lack of necessary materials and resources for our students to thrive. Our neighborhood is high poverty and we are considered to be one of the most challenging schools in our area. We have serious attendance problems and many students who are not engaged in learning.
I have taught here for eighteen years and enjoy the creative spirit of my students.
Over the years, I have had the pleasure of seeing my students discover talents they never knew they had. I strive to expose them to as many diversified, artistic experiences as I can.
At this point in the year, my students have acquired skills in hand building with clay and are now enjoying throwing on the potter's wheel. Working on the wheel is fun, fascinating, and engaging. I want to keep the momentum going.
My Project
As we start school we are facing the challenge of distance learning in a hybrid model. My art class will be taught over a computer instead of in our ceramics studio. Some of our students will be in school and many have chosen to distance learn from their homes.
My students will have touch screen capabilities on their laptops which I do not have on mine.
In order to teach them effectively we all need to have the same tools. Students will be using a stylus or their finger on the touch screen and a touch pad to navigate the commands. I need to have the same options available on my laptop in order to write instruction. I am looking forward to this challenge and want my students to enjoy successfully creating art.
