Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
All children in my classroom are in a Preschool Special Education class. They are eager to learn, explore their world, and especially play! All my students live in a low income community in the heart of Los Angeles.
My students have different types of disabilities ranging from Speech and Language Impairment, Intellectual Disability, to Autism Spectrum Disorder.
However, their disabilities do not stop them from being enthusiastic with everything that they do or from being so loving with everyone they encounter.
My students are full of energy and they are most definitely eager to learn. They love to learn by touching, exploring, coloring, creating, drawing, and playing! They are awesome learners just eager to learn about the world!
My Project
My students use a lot of images, cut-outs, and visuals to help them learn! The Critcut machine will help us make cut-outs for our kids to help them count, match, recognize letters, and help them learn so much in all areas of their development! For example, the Cricut machine can help us cut and print out different shapes to help my students create awesome art work while learning about shapes. The Cricut machine can also help us print and cut out images relating to our theme of study. Not only will it help my students learn but it will also help us create great schedules, visual supports, and communication support for all our students.
Visual communication tools such as objects, photographs, picture symbols, daily schedules and choice boards can provide the support necessary to greatly improve a child’s understanding and ability to communicate, helping children be more active, independent and successful participants in their lives.
The headphones will be so helpful for my students because it will support learning during our "technology time." The headphones that the kids currently have do not fit them. They slide off their small heads and my students aren't able to listen to the books/stories well. I want my students to also keep up with technology so I provide short times throughout their school day to creatively learn in different formats. The headphones will stay put on their heads and allow to learn and listen correctly!
