Help me give my students hands-on learning math and reading items to maximize our growth. The Learning Resources brand is high quality materials that allow my students to manipulate and expand their learning.
I work in a Title I school where every student, Pre-school through grade 12, receives free breakfast and lunch because of our high poverty rate.
My students are the hardest working kids I know.
They each have their own unique needs and disabilities. But, yet they come to school each day with a smile and are eager to learn. They try their best each day and have fun in the process. My classroom is a self-contained special education classroom, which means they spend more than 75% of their day in my classroom. The students range from Kindergarten to 6th grade. They have various disabilities, including Autism, Developmental Cognitive Disabilities, Down's Syndrome and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
I want to create a classroom that focuses on hands-on learning and promotes independence and functional skills so my students can be successful when they leave school.
My Project
I work with a group of students with significant academic needs. Many of my students are also developmentally 3-4 years behind their peers. I have found the greatest success in learning academic tasks when I am using tools that are more "play based." By having these items in my room students are more likely to engage in academic tasks.
The students in my room learn through play.
The students can use the counting dinos as toys but we can learn sorting skills, matching skills, make requests if the student is non-verbal and count the dinosaurs. The same idea for the popcorn - students can place given numbers, count, make patterns and play while learning. We can learn our letters by playing with the popsicles.
A huge thank you in advance for supporting my students and my classroom!
