Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a high poverty area. Over 90% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Thankfully, we are able to take part in a grant that provides free lunch and breakfast to all our students. I teach special education to students from kindergarten to fifth grade with a wide range of strengths and abilities.
My students need hands-on reading activities to help reinforce phonic skills.
Students with disabilities learn better when engaging all senses. These phonic cards engage the student with a tactile approach to reading.
My Project
My students need hands on tactile reading manipulatives in order to reinforce phonic skills. The touch and read phonic sentence match will give my beginning readers the hands on reading reinforcement they need to hone their skills. The cards teach the students to blend and decode through touching.
Students learn best when they can engage all their senses.
These resources will make a difference in my students lives by letting them use touch to learn to read. The kits will grow with the reader, exploring different skills as they progress from CVC sounds, to vowel sounds, and blends. They will progress from simple words to sentences.
