Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are diverse learners who each one need different materials to function throughout the day. Getting these materials will help me and each individual student have a successful year. My students need touch and feel books for the upcoming units.
I am a second year Diverse Learner Teacher at a Pre-k school in Chicago that serves low income Hispanic students.
We are a school who supports our young diverse learners in creating a love of learning experiences. The students in my classroom have been diagnosed with disabilities such as autism, speech and language delay and developmental delay. Each one of my students have a different learning style and needs. My students will benefit from materials that help me facilitate their learning and meet their individual needs in order to have a productive year.
My Project
The use of books is a daily activity in my classroom, through out our different units. Using the touch and feel books for my diverse learners student is very helpful for them to gain information during read aloud time. As a diverse teacher I modify their reading materials, I noticed that students respond well to touch and feel books. They like books they can interact with and helps them retain the information presented to the. The books provided for the unit are great but sometimes students get distracted since their attention span is limited. Some books have been requested double, since we need to service 12 students having an extra copy is useful. With books they can interact more they will have a greater chance to be more involved when doing the units.
