Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Music should be fun and interactive. Technology and music go hand-in-hand. Many of our students are growing up with handheld technology in their homes, but some do not have access. I want to bring more technology into my class and more hands-on experiences with music via the iPad and Apple laptop.
Our students come from low-income families.
Eighty-seven percent of our students qualify for free or reduced priced lunches. Many of our students face challenges at home that affect their performance at school; therefore, we can enhance their lives and education by providing innovative ways to increase their communication skills via art, technology and music.
They love technology and performing arts which makes them great learning and communication tools. When children find new ways of communicating and learning, it opens new worlds and possibilities for them.
My Project
I wish to utilize an iPad along with our current projector to allow students interaction with Garage Band and other musical apps, so they may create their own music. The Apple computer can be used in combination with the iPad to extend our students' exposure to technology that promotes music and will open up a lot of new, creative doorways and opportunities for student expression and publication.
In addition to the technology components, I really need some drums and claves to add to our existing musical instruments. Dejembes are a particular type of drum originating from Africa, and along with the hand drums and claves they will help me to teach the students about rhythm, beat and music from different cultures.
Technology integration in music class keeps students engaged and gives them an age appropriate media form to publish original works of music.
Kids of any age can compose music and share their creations with everyone when they have the right tools. Help me to get and keep my kids excited about school.
