My students are cheerful, outgoing, and have lots of energy. They are eager to learn and participate in new and challenging activities.
Our students want to be exposed to more activities that they can do with family and friends.
We are a Title I school that does not have a gym and very little equipment. These students deserve the opportunity to as many experiences as possible in their Physical Education class.
My Project
My students need a variety of manipulatives to enhance their hand-eye coordination. I know they will get excited when they get to choose from turtles, frogs, chickens, pigs, and fish to toss and catch. Manipulative skills, are those in which a person learns to handle objects with precision in accordance with speed and control. These skills mainly involve physical activities with the use of hand and coordination to execute a task. Students will start with tossing and catching to self and then with a partner. Games like Toss Boss, Flying the Chicken Coop, and The Adventures of Mr. Toss can be played to reinforce those tossing and catching skills.
Physical activities of tossing and catching form an integral part of growing up.
Hand-eye coordination is the use of our eyes to direct our attention to a task and then using our hands to execute it. By using a variety of size and shape of objects will make the learning process fun. This can help students develop eye tracking skills, which are vital for reading. Tossing and catching helps them gain more self-confidence as they take on challenges. This gives them the boost needed when they move on to try more physically demanding activities. The use of scarves and beanbags will be used in tossing and catching activities.
