"It's Friday! Friday! Friday! Don't wanna work, I want to play!" This is a favorite chant of my fifth graders who visit at least three classrooms each Friday singing and praising for their hard work that they have completed that week. The students' enthusiasm for celebrating their hard work permeates throughout the entire building.
It's so fun to be a part of Mrs. C's fifth grade.
Although it seems we do a lot of playing, we work so hard to earn the right to play. Just as the song says, "Let's do our work and then we'll play!" Each morning students walk into the classroom with the desire to learn and ask, "Mrs. C, what are we learning today?"
One hundred percent of our school qualifies for free breakfast and lunch in our rural community, but participating in a variety of activities definitely keeps these fifth graders engaged and willing to learn. We also have a local National Guard Unit in our area and have a lot of military families with parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins serving in our beautiful country. We are dedicated to helping our students and their families.
My Project
Our class would benefit in so many ways with having the Qball. What a wonderful tool to keep students engaged in their learning! Being able to hear each speaker as they catch the ball and speak will definitely keep my students engaged in their learning.
Every morning, my students participate in a class meeting where each student has the opportunity to share any news that they might have.
Fifth graders have a lot to share and its frustrating to them when they cannot be heard. Having the Qball would diminish the problem of students not being heard and it would add a lot of fun tossing the ball to the next class member indicating their turn to speak.
Having the Qball to take outside would be beneficial as well since there are so many activities that we do outside of the classroom. From environmental science topics to completing writing and language activities, this ball has endless possibilities. My students would love having this ball be a part of their learning.
