Mrs. Main from Kansas City MO is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need an LCD Projector for our classroom.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Top Secret Scholars deserve to have technology in their classroom, too! I teach a group of wonderful 3rd graders in a high-need community in Missouri where 99% of my students are black and over 85% are on free and reduced lunch. All of my students qualified for a program where they receive food to eat over the weekend-without it, many of them would go hungry. Our school is unable to provide teachers with a budget for their classrooms or even meet our basic needs, so we must use all of our own supplies and it is difficult to support my students and their learning on my salary.
It is troubling that only a few miles away in the white schools, those students have massive amounts of technology in their classroom with access to the Internet, computers, and so many other things while we have nothing but a closet of broken computers (my personal computer is the only working computer with no Internet access). My school has only a few VHS players (no DVD players) and televisions for staff use, and no projectors of any kind. My students have a great interest in technology and they are so engaged and get a new understanding when I am able to use visuals, but unfortunately there is no way to show them videos from the Internet, pictures of our subject matter, or even use PowerPoint when we do not have a way to project it onto the board.
Receiving an LCD projector for the Top Secret Scholars to use in our classroom would mean so much to my students. Not only would it aid in my students' learning by allowing me to use new and exciting resources, it would allow them to be so much more engaged in the lessons that I teach. Instead of simply telling my students about something or describing it, I could show it to them so they can see truly understand what we are learning about from a whole new perspective.
The funding of a projector would change the dynamics in my classroom for the better; these students need to be excited about school and their enthusiasm and level of learning would be greatly increased with the purchase of a projector. It scares me when I see some of my students who are not interested in school and I know that we are in the age where technology can really make a difference and open their eyes to the amazing things around us. Being able to learn in a different way will challenge my students to expand their learning beyond anything else they have ever experienced. Your support would make it possible for my students to learn in a way that they have never seen before and they will not receive this gift without the support of wonderful donors like you. Thank you for supporting Top Secret Scholars!!!
