Top-Notch Presentations That Students Can Visualize
Help me give my students a more visual learning experience. The Elmo document camera will help my students to observe and understand key concepts that must be modeled in class.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach 9th-12th grade science students who are intelligent, energetic, and inquisitive. We are a public charter school with students from all backgrounds. We serve a diverse population of 1,600 students reflective of our city and community. Our minority population is approximately 20% to 25% African American, 5% Hispanic, and 2% percent are from other minority groups. A great percentage of our students come from low-income families. While our school has programs that serve all students with varied learning styles, many of my 9th-12th graders are visual learners and understand best when I model or demonstrate concepts.
My Project
When learning science concepts, students often need to visualize the "I Do, You Do" aspect. A great deal of the concepts taught are easier understood if students can see as the teacher demonstrates. An Elmo document camera will be useful during lectures and labs. We create many foldables in biology class, and this project will help me to demonstrate the "how to"—especially for my learners who are visual and need to see how something is done. Similarly, during labs and class demonstrations the Elmo will allow every student to be an observer while being engaged in the learning process.
