Top Marks for Super Students

My students need fresh colorful markers to create brilliant work, and a heavy duty electric pencil sharpener to keep our pencils on point.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As the teacher-librarian, I am lucky enough to interact with each one of the 470 students in our vibrant and diverse community of learners. Our students embody passion, social justice, and hard work. Albert Einstein said, "Creativity is intelligence having fun" and our students prove it daily!

Our school is a community of educators and students that work hard every day to bring the very best educational experience to life.

We offer a community program and a dual Spanish/English immersion program. 54% of children attending our school qualify for free or reduced rate lunch. Because this number is below 60% our school no longer receives Title I funding, though there is still great need for support around equity and enrichment for our at-risk and high needs students, as well as the student body as a whole. Many of our students lack opportunities for a print rich environment at home. As the teacher-librarian at my school, I strive to get kids excited and engaged in reading for class and for fun! My goal is to cultivate curious and engaged lifelong learners.

My Project

I incorporate writing and drawing into our library lessons daily, but it's hard to draw your favorite character or write a poem with a dried up marker or broken pencil. We use pencils and markers in the library to write down our thoughts and express our best ideas. We haven't had new markers in quite some time, and I'd love to share some fresh colors with these deserving kiddos.

My students are the most creative people I know, and I want to encourage their imaginations with high quality tools.

With twenty classes per week in the library, our resources see a lot of little hands. Sharp pencils and new markers will help them do their best work.
