My students need weights to use on their toothpick bridge project. They also need them for manipulatives in math class for their measurement and data unit.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students have a knack for learning. They are easily encouraged with project based learning.
My students come from a low economic background.
We are 90% free and reduced-price lunches. These kiddos do not have a lot of support from home. They enjoy being in the classroom. My students work together in order to gain achievement toward their individual and personal goal. They use each other for support in learning.
My Project
My students will primarily use the metric weight to help support their Toothpick Bridge project. This is an enrichment project in order to give the students real life experiences. They students get to be project managers, architects, transportation chiefs and accountants. These weights will support them in being accountable for their work environments and structures, then ultimately we will see how much weight their bridges can hold before they break.
This project will help the students with weights and ratios.
So far in the past my students have had to use bulky items, such as, staplers, tape dispensers, pencil boxes, etc. This is difficult because the weight of the items are not consistent. With having a weight set it would be more practical and students could identify the weights and record measurements more accurately. This would make the final day more smooth in process. Thank you for helping us grow.
