My Students

My students are growing up in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. They are as diverse as these hills! Some of them are growing up in one of the most affluent neighborhoods in Asheville. Others are living in one of the most economically struggling neighborhoods.

Despite this, they have many more similarities than they do differences.

They love to explore and create in our STEAM Makerspace through project based learning. They love to problem solve. They love a good story. They love to work together to learn.

My Project

These texts tie directly into the 6th grade curriculum, while also being visually engaging for young reluctant readers. Getting these types of texts into their hands can make all the difference and can be a turning point for students.

Finding a book that they love can make students feel successful.

That success can lead to greater confidence, more successes and it never ends!

The cycle that begins by getting the right book into the hands of a child is a game changer. When I say, "Ok, put your books away.", and students don't won't, that is one time I am ok with them NOT listening to me!
