Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students have great individual strengths. They're funny, outgoing, and smart! They do have extraordinarily challenged by their individual disabilities. Although their disabilities have made it difficult for them to meet grade-level literacy skills for Common Core Standards. My students continue to persevere each day to improve in their academics.
It is important for my students to have a variety of literature that grabs their interest to improve their literacy skills.
Toon books can help them focus on their reading skills. My students need to be successful in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and math skills. Most of my students' listening, speaking, reading, writing, and math skills are far below basic. Many of my students come from low-income homes. All of my students have special needs. My students with various disabilities (Specific Learning Disabilities, Autism, and Other Health Impaired) are literacy challenged.
Therefore; my students need the opportunity to access their academic potential. If my students have Toon books in my classroom; they would be excited to improve their learning.
My Project
My students' reading skills are very low. To help my students increase their literacy skills, I would like to expose them to Toon books. Toon books will promote literacy growth and are not overwhelming for them as they practice their decoding skills. My student are required to read every day.
My students need great books to spark their interests and help them grasp literacy skills.
Toon books can catch my students’ attention and I know that my students will love them. My students will be able to read the Toon books and write summaries on them through daily reading logs. My students will be able to share the Toon books with their families when they borrow the books to read at home. What a great way to access literacy with a Toon book in hand.
