Most of my students have started school at a disadvantage. Some don't have books at home, and some don't have anyone at home to help them with the English language. They are wonderful 6 year olds full of excitement and wonder. Like most first graders these students love learning. I want to give these great children every opportunity to close the achievement gap.
These students spend half their day learning math, reading, writing, and speaking in Spanish.
They spend the other half of the day learning math, reading, writing, and speaking in English. Students learn better when they can learn at their own pace and with fun hands on projects.
My Project
When students finish an assignment quickly, they find a book and read while others finish their work. I have a few students who say they don't like to read. I know it's just a matter of finding the right thing to read.
I want to help my students learn how to read, but also help them learn to LOVE reading!
The pictures in these books make reading more fun and help bring the story to life. These books will be a great addition to my classroom library. They will add some variety and make it easier for students to find something they find interesting and fun to read.
