Help me give my students a step ladder, screwdriver set, and other essential technology tools to learn how to maintain the technology we already have and to install future technology purchases.
My school is made up of a racially, economically, linguistically, and culturally diverse group of middle school students who are passionate about using technology in the classroom and eager to have teachers who integrate technology effectively into their instruction.
Although my school is historically low-performing, the administration, staff, and students are committed to changing perceptions, breaking barriers, fostering growth, and achieving our goals.
With your help, we can continue our growth by fostering a professional environment of collaboration and learning in which teachers master the technological tools and strategies needed to help our students be successful.
My Project
Some projects are truly impressive in their requests and vision. This is not one of those projects.
Although there's nothing pretty or glamorous about this project, with some basic tools that we currently don't have, we can make our existing technology last us a long time.
Having our teachers and students actively use available technology is one of our goals, and basic maintenance is key. Training students and teachers to complete basic maintenance and troubleshooting tasks on their own will make our school's technology use even more effective.
The various tools will be used for general maintenance of existing devices and installation of new devices, including everything from replacing individual keyboard keys and switching out hard drives to installing ceiling-mount projectors and wall-mounted screens. Finally, a ladder will allow teachers to check cables on projectors and replace bulbs and filters without the risk of standing on a student desk or table.
With our school's goal of developing a 1:1 environment, training students to diagnose and resolve basic issues would provide a helpful resource for the school and valuable, real-world training for students interested in technology careers.
