Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first-year teacher at a Title I school. I teach fourth grade and am loving every minute of it. Before my teaching position, I did my student teaching as well as held a long-term substitute position at my new school and fell in love with the students, principal, and staff. Even though my students struggle with hardships every day, such as homelessness, incarcerated parents, little or no food, and language barriers, they always have a smile on their face when they come to school and are eager to learn. I am blessed to be able to work with these students and make a difference in their lives. This has been an awesome first year. I am sad that with everything happening, the ability to teach in the classroom has ended so abruptly.
My Project
I am a first-year teacher aiming to create an environment where students can learn, thrive, and be successful. I teach at a Title I school, where many of my students suffer from life struggles and poverty. Even though, they endure different types of hardships every day, they are great kids. Some hardships my students deal with include homelessness, custody battles, incarcerated parents, parents with addictions problems, little or no food, and language barriers. Even though they have difficult home lives, they always come to school with a smile on their face and are eager to learn. I am blessed to be able to work with these students and hopefully make a difference in their lives.

These are typical items found in classrooms around the country, such as pencils, glue sticks, scissors, and dry erase markers. Few students will come to school on the first day with all the items on the school supply list, some may come with a few things from the list. Unfortunately, many will come with nothing. This is fine, I am happy that they are there, but I want them to have the items at their desk that the other kids have. By providing my students with these essential tools, they will be able to focus on their learning and in turn be successful. Also, your generosity will not only be provide for my students on the first day of school, but will also help replenish these supplies several times throughout the year.
