This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in a community that has been struggling for many years, and the Covid 19 pandemic made that struggle even more evident. Families have lost jobs, lost loved ones, and there is not a lot of money for "extras".

Despite these challenges, students have been so excited to return to school this year and they are working hard to become the future scientists, teachers, mathematicians, and doctors that their community needs.

My Project

Calculators in classrooms are here to stay. Students will learn how to use calculators to develop skills such as number sense, estimation and problem solving.

It is important to know how to do the math manually, but it is also important to know how to use a calculator.

This is a skill in itself, which students need to learn. They need to know all of the functions of a calculator. On many of the standardized tests with which our students will be evaluated throughout their educational career, they will be able to use a calculator. I want my students to have the same access to technology as their more affluent peers have.
