My students need an assortment of materials to publish their writing pieces, such as pencils and construction paper, as well as a special author's chair!

For some students, the writing process can be daunting. First we pre-write, draft, edit and revise, than publish. My goal with this project is to provide students with the necessary items to carry them through the writing process in a creative and fun way!
I teach 5th grade at a Title I school in West Harlem.
I feel honored to teach in a community flourishing with a rich culture and history that I can directly connect to my curriculum on a daily basis. Many of my students come from low-income families, and approximately 90% of the students at my school qualify for free lunch. My students have many diverse learning needs. Half of my class receives special education or English language learner services, and my students' academic abilities range from 2nd grade to 7th grade. My students are truly the most energetic, spunky, creative, hardworking, and curious 5th graders you could ever meet. They want to grow up to be scientists, lawyers, doctors, artists, writers, teachers, and beyond. My goal is to provide them with all of the necessary resources so that they are able to chase their dreams and so they will know that with hard work and perseverance, they can truly be whatever they want to be.
Students will use the writing supplies (pencils, erasers, white out, etc.) to help them write! I received little to no school supplies at the beginning of the year, and I need these items so students can carry out their writing pieces. The artistic supplies (construction paper, scissors, glue, etc.) are for the publishing portion of the writing process. I want students to take pride in their published pieces by being able to decorate them. I always love displaying student work in the hallway where everyone can see, and these items will ensure that students are proud of the work that is being displayed. Lastly, I'm requesting a special author's chair. When pieces are done, we have a writing celebration where students present their writing pieces to the class and families come to watch. I make a very big deal out of finishing a writing piece, and giving students a special chair to present in will make it special!
These materials will help improved my classroom because I want my students to become lifelong writers.
I want them to love text, and know that they can express themselves through writing. Making this writing process easier and more creative will help them do this. These items are also important because I want students to know that they can accomplish a challenging task, be proud of their work, and have other people be proud of their work. Please help my fifth grade superstar writers!
