Help me give my students the tools they need to become better readers by allowing them to have more nonfiction text in our classroom library as well as a cassette player to play my books on tape.
My first graders are such an amazing group of kiddos to work with. They are excited, engaged in their learning and soak up the knowledge you present to them like sponges. I am amazed every day at how much their brains are soaking up what I am teaching them.
My learners are becoming more independent and excited to explore their learning.
My classroom is centered around creating a safe and comfortable environment where my learners can feel like they can think outside the box and take a risk in their learning. I am excited to be able to be a part of this important time in their learning careers.
My Project
We are starting our next units in reading and writing that focus on nonfiction. Our classroom library needs more nonfiction text for my learners to become familiar with. Nonfiction text allows my learners to explore the world past the walls of their home or the walls of our classroom. My kiddos are voracious learners and love to ask questions about things they do not know about. I want them to have the opportunity to explore topics they are interested in and have them come tell me facts and teach me something I might not know.
I was lucky enough to inherit a CD player from a colleague and was excited that we would be able to have a listening center in our classroom, however it did not work out as planned.
Unfortunately, all the books on tape I had were in fact on cassette tape and the CD player did not also have a cassette tape slot. My learners were bummed that they were not able to use it. It would be amazing to have a CD/cassette player that we could actually use in the classroom. It will help students with their listening comprehension and they also love to just sit and listen to stories whenever they can.
