My students need 2 Big Screen Microscopes, 2 Adaptors, 1 Recycling Kit, 2 Slider Packs Sets, a Four in One Prepared Slide set and 1 Create-a-slide-classpack.
Hello and welcome to my school. It serves a population of predominantly minority students (95%) who receive free and/or reduced lunch meals. These students come from a very low socio-economic status and as their teacher, I would like to expose them to as many learning opportunities as I possibly can. In particular, my classroom consists of sixteen students who have varying learning abilities as well as learning modalities. From this situation stems my desire to help them succeed academically.
One of my goals (every year) is to address my students' needs and tailor my instruction in a way that meets their specific learning style. However, this can sometimes be hindered by budget constraints. In my school, budget allocation is usually geared at basic classroom supplies and not necessarily for tools that I can use to create "outside-of-the-box" enrichment activities for my students.
The resources I have requested consist of science materials that will provide the hands-on learning that my visual and kinesthetic learners need. For instance, students will utilize the microscope/slides to examine bacteria and track it's growth. The clear slides will be used to create our own bacteria and apply the scientific method by observing, recording and researching it. The adapter requested for the microscope will allow students to use this instrument directly from their seat without having to move around in the classroom. And finally, the other materials will be used in combination with the slides and microscope to further enhance the learning during this unit.
In essence, I feel that the materials requested will give students the ability to compare/contrast what their are learning in their text and then transfer this knowledge into real-world experiences. I believe that when students learn through doing, their comprehension is not only taken to a higher level, but so is their motivation and desire to learn. I thank you for reading my proposal and possibly considering it for funding. Best, Mr. R.
