I have the privilege of being the band director at a middle school and high school in a small, rural town in North Carolina. The band program is full of hard-working students and supportive parents. However, there is limited funding available for the numerous materials we need to build a successful program.
Every day, my students impress me with their desire to learn and to become the best musicians possible.
They work hard and strive to meet every goal that we set. The students in this band program are dedicated and determined! With their positive attitudes and strong work ethic, and the addition of needed materials, our band program is going to grow and flourish.
My Project
An instrument is more fun to learn when you have all of the tools you need to be successful and the instrument is in proper working condition. All of the items purchased with this project will be used to ensure that our beginners have instruments that are in the best playing condition possible and to ensure that they always have what they need to play. When learning to play the clarinet or saxophone, beginners go through quite a few reeds. Having extras on hand ensures that if they break a reed, the music doesn't have to stop.
Purchasing an instrument and all of the needed accessories for that instrument is not cheap, many of our parents are working hard to provide an instrument for their beginning band student.
Having the items purchased with this project will ensure that we as teachers are doing all we can to help out our students and their parents.
