Our small school is a Title I school where 90% of our students receive free or reduced price breakfast and lunch. Our school faces several challenges due to a lack of resources and funding.
A word that we use a lot in our classroom is PERSEVERE.
My students are resilient and work hard to soak up knowledge and overcome any barriers in their way. We work hard to create community that supports each other through everything. We celebrate each other's successes and encourage each other through times of struggle.
My Project
The items that I am requesting will help my students that have sensory needs be able to succeed in the classroom. Often times a classroom that has 30 or more students that are all five years old, can get loud and chaotic causing students to get anxious. The headphones help filter the noise level so it not as overwhelming. The wobble seats cushions and chair bands will help them move that nervous energy out, while sitting safely in their seats. The ocean light will help provide a calming effect for them when we are trying to bring our energy level back down.
We have the ability to make sure that all children have an educational environment to thrive in.
Over my years as a teacher, I have learned many effective ways to help students with sensory needs thrive in a classroom. Many of these tools I have used in the past and had great success with them. I am confident that these items will make a positive impact in my classroom for many years to come.
