Over 85 students come to my classroom in order to create, re-enact, perform, simulate, and do social studies. My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds, and in total they speak over a dozen languages at home. As an educator, it is my hope to bring all of their unique perspectives out into the open. Through this exposure to diverse ideas and opinions, we are able to come together as a community.
When my students leave, I want them to walk away with an appreciation for all that the world has to offer.
It is through our shared experiences that we are able to come closer together as a class and community. We then are able to tackle problems previously thought impossible when working alone.
My Project
Everyone at our school strives to create a positive space to learn. No matter what though, stress and emotions are always a present issue worth addressing. In order to help all the teachers and staff address emotional and stress related issues we would like to provide them with items for the students. One way of dealing with stress can be as simple as squeezing a ball, so this project seeks to acquire stress balls that can be used by students when they are feeling particularly stressed. This project also includes mini-journals for students to use when they are feeling overwhelmed with emotion. The journals are a great tool because whatever is bothering the students can be written down to share later, or reflect upon when the emotion has passed. Both of these tools will go a long way to making our school and even more positive place to learn!
