Help me give my students a color-changing LED chair which will be a calming safe spot for my students along with the fish tank light with bubbles, liquid fidget toys, and a squishy drawing board.
My third graders are creative, fun, enthusiastic boys and girls who are excited to learn new things but due to COVID-19, they are still experiencing emotions and feelings they are not used to. This project will allow them to develop a stronger growth mindset and also give them new ways to cope and make plans on how to emotionally grow.
Our school is a public, Title I funded, K-6 elementary school, with 91% of the students receiving free or reduced-price lunches.
The Pandemic has prevented many students from developing the skills they need to use when they are having uncontrollable emotions. These items will be used with students to learn how to cope with their feelings. Being away from school during remote learning for so long, some students need tools to help with this stress.
These items will allow me to cultivate and encourage the practice of regulating emotions with my students and help them learn how to calm themselves. I currently have a small tub on a desk with a few fidgets that act as a calming area for students to go to, but I quickly realized last year that I needed to expand the area since there is a great need for it with my students.
