My students are inquisitive, excited, and interested in learning new things! I love watching them grow into amazing readers, writers, mathematicians, and critical thinkers.
These students are always ready to learn something new and they are able to make amazing connections between their new learning and the world around them.
They constantly amaze me with their flexibility in thinking. Our school is in a small, urban area in northeast Tennessee. As a neighborhood school, we are a close-knit community that values student success and celebrates student achievement.
My Project
Young children often have a very concrete way of seeing the world. This can be problematic when their math lessons begin to delve into large numbers that are too difficult to count or draw. By using concrete models such as base ten blocks and ten frame counting tools, little minds can understand how to add and subtract big numbers. These tools help children understand how to work with numbers in the hundreds place without counting out 100 small objects. Time is another tricky math concept that requires extra materials. These small clocks with gears allow students to see how the hands move together on a clock, which is much more effective than using a clock model with hands that are not moving together. Finally, reviewing math content in the form of games is engaging and effective for young learners. These materials will help me teach and help the students practice math skills that are essential.
