My diverse group of students are full of energy and eager to learn. They are building friendships and positive interactions to create a caring community. Most of my students come from low-income households. They have limited access to resources. Many of the students have experienced hardships and enter the classroom with trauma. The class works hard to build a safe environment so that all students can achieve their highest potential socially and academically.
My students are building their learning stamina and having fun along the way.
My classroom incorporates the Readers and Writers Workshop model for balanced literacy. They enjoy reading with their partners and writing stories. The students need tools and resources to engage in literacy activities planned for them.
My Project
Writing has been a great challenge to many of my students who are English learners. They need motivation and encouragement to grow their writing skills. I have been using ball point pens during our writing workshop and first graders find it challenging to control their writing because they glide too much. The flair pens give them more control and last longer. The flair pens also have dark pigment which makes it easier to read rather than pencils or pens. The students enjoy working with the flair pens.
The materials I have requested help my students stay organized and access tools with ease.
My students store their writing booklets and tools in folders. The tools like alphabet chart, personal word walls and writing goals are stored in the sheet protectors for easy access. The folder helps them stay organized.
