This is my second year as a fifth-grade bilingual teacher. My students are English Language Learners (ELL) and come from low-income households. The majority of our students are ESL learners (English as a Second Language). Not being native English speakers makes their school work an extra challenge for them. These students come to class ready to take on that challenge. You would never hear them complain. They are filled with potential to learn so that they can communicate with the other students and teachers around them.
Our school is a Title I school; every student receives free lunch but my students love to learn and come to school.
However, they are faced with more struggles and obstacles than an adult can endure. The teachers work hard to make sure these students know that their positive attitude is what will help them strive to learn.
My students love being active, independent learners. They work so hard every day, dedicated to learning and are willing to take every battle, big or small that the world throws at them in order to succeed. It is my desire that my classroom will be a place where my students will come to grow.
My Project
This project is very critical to my fifth-grade bilingual students during this time we are ordered to teach our students online through Google Meet or Google Classroom. My students are struggling with social-emotional learning. Putting them on the same routine and schedule as we are in school helps them overcome their daily life struggles. It's very difficult to teach while I hold my phone in one hand to show the book and the other hand to write as they answer. My hand shakes and makes it hard for students to see. I've tried so many different ways but its never the right angle for students to see.
My students need the LIVE classroom I host to continue to learn as they have nobody at home that can help them.
I use my LIVE classroom to help check in on students during this pandemic. That is why I requested the inexpensive I-PEVO and tripod to help my students in order to continue their learning virtually while in quarantine. It's a very difficult time for all these families who struggle with essentials for their daily life. As the teacher providing the students the opportunity to learn helps ease some burden that's on the parents.
