We're off to a great start this school year, and, despite the pandemic, students have been thriving being back in the classroom! This summer, I was incredibly fortunate to teach summer school and meet many of my incoming students! This year, my roster includes 15 students; none of whom have experienced a ‘traditional’ or ‘typical’ year of learning. Between remote and distance learning, a shortened school week and daily schedule, and many social distance requirements, these first graders' schooling experiences have sure been different! The students have jumped right into the learning that happens in first grade!
With that said… we’re ready!
When asked ‘Are you ready?’, you’ll hear 15 unison voices respond ‘I was born ready!’ Our small mill town community has experienced many changes over the last year. We are a Title I school, and many families struggle to meet basic needs. My students are eager, energetic, and compassionate. What we have lots of is love, passion, and a goal to always try our best in our classroom. My students are my reason, and DonorsChoose.org helps make our dreams come true!
My Project
Learning at school goes far beyond the core subject areas, and this project request includes different tools to help us throughout of daily learning. The highlighter tape will help early readers identify and focus on sight words and one-to-one match with their words. So many students are still developing beginning reading skills after learning from home last year, and this tape will be extremely helpful!
The bookmarks, crowns, and stickers will help students to celebrate their hard work and learning across subject areas- we love sharing proud moments with our peers and staff at school, and these will help us ‘show off’ our accomplishments!
The timer will help students have a visual for building stamina during our independent work time. We’ve been working incredibly hard this year to increase independence! The social emotional cards will be an incredible asset for small group work to have students work on identifying emotions and modeling different social interactions. We are working on building empathy in our classroom and our school community! The roller tool for playdough will help students strengthen hand muscles and be creative in their imaginative play.
While the tools span subject areas, they will all play an important role in our classroom learning! Thank you for your consideration!
