Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 21 lively, motivated students in a high-needs community. My school is struggling to increase reading scores and, as our funding has decreased over the years, this has been difficult to do with less resources.
My students have set their reading goals high. They each want to reach their own personal goals and a class average of 2 levels higher than the 1st grade goal. In order to achieve these goals we need high level, engaging, and research based literacy centers.
Centers allow students to work both independently and collaboratively with their classmates on a variety of essential reading skills. However, with decreased funding and very little (if any) resources, these literacy centers are not always available. Since students work in these centers daily the materials must be fun and educational to keep the students engaged while learning. These materials will do just that.
You can help my students reach their reading goals! These materials will greatly advance the learning of my students. With these materials I can spend less instructional planning time on creating centers and more time teaching my students!
