Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My band students are at an urban, Title I school. Over 65% of students are low-income and unable to receive supplemental music instruction through private lessons or step-up materials. They struggle to obtain instrument playing supplies and basic school supplies. Nearly all the students play on school-owned instruments. Free breakfast and lunch are provided to 100% of students.
They love music and come to class daily with passion and excitement.
My students are excited to learn, curious, and willing to take risks. Their positive attitudes are so inspiring. Music really does change lives.
In our band program, I focus on providing a safe environment where my students can develop strong character, become excellent all-around students, and grow into wonderful musicians with a life-long love of music.
My Project
Repairs are just a part of running a band program. Even with normal wear and tear, music stands need to be tightened, hinges on lockers need to be replaced, screws and bolts disappear.
Having well functioning equipment makes playing our music easier; this can easily be accomplished by having the right tools for the job.
With this project, I will have access to tools and replacement screws, bolts and washers to repair and tighten equipment in the band room. No more wobby music stands that drop our music, no more missing bolts, no more endless frustration when things aren't working quite right.
