Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a poor urban school where resources are short and needs are great. We are a happy bunch of first graders who greatly want to learn and have a classroom which is organized to maximize education. We have a mixture of regular education and special needs students. You could definitely call my classroom diverse.
Our class and school come from low income Hispanic and Black families who are dedicated to their child's education.
If they surely had the money, the parents would donate these items themselves but they are busy providing for their families. We have to rely on the kindness of donors to fund our projects.
My Project
It seems like the school academic year is going further and further into the hot summer months. Unfortunately, most school buildings are not equipped with air conditioning. So as a classroom’s temperature soars into the upper 80’s, the students are still expected to continue with their academic rigor. This is not a realistic concept especially when you think about the numbers of students who have asthma, suffer from obesity from poor diet, and concentration issues. An air conditioner would help cool off the classroom in comparison to the two box fans we use now that don’t do the job effectively. It would also filter out pollen which contributes to more asthma and allergy attacks, thus contributing to lack of attention. We need your help to keep us cool.
