This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from a downtown Oklahoma City school. We have a lot of English Language Learners in a school with all students receiving a free breakfast and lunch. It is a low socio-economic area. I am a firm believer of teaching the student where they are. I want them to have many experiences and strive to show them the many opportunities out there. It is hard to tell a child anything is possible when they don't have the resources to achieve their goals.

My Project

I know it doesn't sound exciting to donate money for printer toner, but our class uses our class printer for many different things. It's not just for the teacher use.

The printer in our classroom is used with project boards, pictures for vocabulary and various student-based learning.

My classroom is on the 3rd floor and sometimes we have one printer in the building working on the 1st floor. It's crazy! The office tries to keep it all running but budgets are tight and we need to make the copies mainly for assessments.

For example, we just finished the book "Stargirl" and would love to make booklets to show what they know. I print out examples of the vocabulary words as I read to them too for our ELL learners.
