Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I truly believe my terrific, inquisitive 3rd graders are capable of reaching their academic goals. I love seeing their faces light up as they learn new math, science, and literacy skills.
My students live in and attend school in a high poverty area and many come from single parent families who can't afford life essentials such as food, clothing, and shelter.
At our school, 100% of the students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. Despite the challenges of poverty, they arrive at school eager and ready for the day's lessons and projects.
My Project
Our Title 1 school has very limited supplies due to budget cuts. Our classroom has a copier, but we are limited to one toner cartridge for the whole school year. With a large classroom of third graders who need worksheets printed in all subject areas, our one toner cartridge is quickly being depleted. If the copier runs out of toner, we are out of luck and as a result, the students suffer. I copy worksheets that help reinforce the skills that have been taught, homework skill practice sheets, science and social studies units, data sheets, and reports and communication notes to send home to parents many of whom do not have internet access for electronic communication. Unfortunately, without toner students will have no opportunity to practice skills they've learned and parent communication notes will not be possible.
The goal of my project is to receive enough toner cartridges to ensure that I can consistently provide my students with academic worksheets and parents with classroom communications.
We don't have science or social studies resources and without toner I would be unable to print anything in these subjects for my students. They love learning and would truly miss the challenge of conquering math practice and homework worksheets.
I'm also requesting Jolly Ranchers and Pixy Stix candies as sweet incentive for my students as a motivation to read more and retain math skills, as well as score 100% on tests and Accelerated Reader and Math quizzes.
If our toner project is funded, we would be fortunate to have toner for the rest of the school year. Please help keep our classroom copier toned and ready to copy.
