My Students

Our classroom family is made of 20 enthusiastic students in a small, rural elementary school. We are a close-knit community, and our students deserve the very best, but the funding isn't always available. I strive to find a way to get my students everything they need to be successful learners!

In our class, we are a family.

As in any family, each member brings something unique and valuable to the table. I strive to instill acceptance, support, and compassion into our daily lessons to ensure that all students feel safe, loved, and valued when they come to school.

My Project

The students in my grade level will examine and dissect the writing styles of master authors to help them grow in their own writing, through spelling, grammar, and style.

Students will study a mentor text weekly, focusing on grammar skills, style, and ideas.

This will happen in all three classrooms across the grade level. By studying the work of established authors, students will investigate what makes a great sentence, and how they can use the styles, ideas, and strategies to improve their own writing. They will decompose, revise, and imitate sentences written by master authors each week, gaining a deeper understanding of what good authors do.
