Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Welcome to our room!! "May I have a pass to go to the library to access the Google program for our history project?" student asks. This is a constant occurrence in my classroom. Students want to apply the knowledge learned but waste and miss class time due to technological deficits.
Many of my students come from households with both parents working numerous jobs.
Our school has over 75% free or reduced-price lunch and breakfast.
With this though, students strive to better themselves both academically and as individuals. Through their interactions with others at school and their studies they are gaining the background knowledge and new concepts to be productive members of society. Maintaining their buy-in and interest in school is vital to ensure their success in making good choices for themselves and their future.
My Project
With this donation of nonfiction books, students will read about diverse and interesting people in a historical context. Through their reading, students will examine and be exposed to different people and how they reacted to the historical events they experienced.
By giving students choice of books, they will be more invested in their academic learning and learning about tolerance through reading.
This set of 80 nonfiction books will allow students to choose titles including: Heart and Soul: The Story of America and African Americans, The Endless Steppe Growing Up in Siberia, A Girl from Yamhill: A Memoir, Children of the Wild West, Queen Eleanor: Independent Spirit of the Medieval World, Nelson Mandela: "No Easy Walk to Freedom," and many more.
Students will read, discuss, and create projects to demonstrate and share tolerance with other. Tolerance is not just accepting others but actively learning about others and promoting to the community.
