Help me give my students literacy resources to develop and build social-emotional skills. Kindness and safety are guidelines to be mindful of in all environments. Students will have individual journals/notebooks to write reflections of books shared.
The students in my second-grade class come from diverse backgrounds. While academic expectations continue to be high, many of the students come to school with social and emotional challenges. Addressing these challenges by establishing a positive classroom and school community and making connections with our students is part of our school-wide curriculum.
Our school community continues to work on strategies to enable students to feel safe and successful while at school.
A theme of kindness, success, and safety are emphasized in all aspects of our campus.
My Project
Having literature resources will support our classroom and school-wide theme of kindness, success, and safety. These books will be an exciting addition to our class library.
The texts will be used in many interactive activities throughout our day.
During our morning meetings, the teacher will be reading aloud to the whole class. The texts will also be shared by students in small groups and book clubs. The students will have opportunities to interact with the books during whole group and independent reading activities.
Our class library will have a special section for these texts in our classroom library. Kindness, success, and safety will be added theme baskets to the classroom collection.
