Many of my students are English language learners. They come to school every day and try to excel in an environment where they are struggling to learn a new language and make new friends. They come ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. They truly are an inspiration!
A main goal in our classroom is to build relationships and find shared experiences.
Often times students who do not speak the language find other ways to communicate, like drawing pictures or creating projects. I love watching them make connections and foster friendships throughout the year.
I am so lucky and thankful to have such a diverse and excited group of students to grow with through the school year.
My Project
Research has shown that most students pay the most attention in the first few minutes and the last few minutes of a lesson. The time in between should be as focused, clear, and meaningful as possible Having all materials ready nearby with the use of this easel will make that time well spent.
Effective teaching happens when a teacher models a skill and then gives children the opportunity to practice that skill together.
With the use of this easel, I will be able to model a skill with all of the tools I may need right at my fingertips. That allows for minimal distraction and quick, focused instruction. When the learning has been turned over to the students, they will be able to model their work for the class on the easel as well.
In my classroom I would use this easel every day: for reading, writing, mathematics and everything else! I can keep all of my math materials on the bottom ready to use for any lesson. I can keep dry erase markers and erasers handy in the baskets when modeling writing and I can keep all of my charts together and easily at my disposal when I want to point out reading strategies we are learning. This is a multi-functional tool to be used by my students as well as myself.
