Tode-ally Tantilizing Nematode Nexus!

Help me give my students complete class sets of Nematode Study kits to transport their study of soil conservation and ecology to the microscopic world of nematodes and illuminate the impact these organisms have on global food production.

My Project

Our classroom is messy! Lab stations are covered with soil and test tubes and microscope slides and student plant projects. My agricultural science and conservation students are making connections between the health of soil and the challenges of growing enough food to feed the world's population.

Healthy soil is essential to meet the demands of feeding 10 billion people worldwide by 2050.

Soil is impacted by climate change, increasing demand for energy and water and decreasing availability of arable land for food production. Nematodes can further disrupt healthy nutrient exchange between plants and soil. While the need for healthy soil becomes more vital, most K-12 students will never have the opportunity to learn about soil science.

Class sets of Nematode Study kits will allow the students in our classroom to apply an industry-standard, real-world application of soil science. This investigation of nematode populations in different types of soil will enable students to develop problem solving models for how nematodes impact local, and global, agricultural production. Your support of our project will give students the opportunity to make a "tode"-ally tantalizing nematode nexus! Thank you!
