This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a Title I public school in Durham, NC. I have fifteen pre-K students between the ages of four to five years of age. I have a few students who have special needs such as speech delays and developmental delays. All of my students are eager to learn and love to explore new things. They absolutely love hands-on activities, active and engaging projects. It is a truly joy to work with this age group. "The smallest things take up the most room in your heart".
My Project
We are requesting a rug for our classroom to use during our story time and independent reading. Students are often better able to concentrate when sitting at the rug for interactive reading. My students need a cozy carpet to invite them to learn and explore. We spend most of our day on the floor and my students would love to have a comfy space of their own while they take on the learning challenges as we prepare for kindergarten readiness.
Having this classroom rug and book set will allow my students to stay focused and engaged during story time and independent reading.
Minimizing distractions and increasing their focus is vital for helping scholars learn and grow.
