Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a group of thirty, wonderful kindergarten scholars who are learning to speak, read and write in Spanish as part of the Dual Language Academy in my district. My scholars are primarily English Learners and range in academic abilities. For many of my students, it is the first time they experience learning a new language. As difficult as it may be, each and every one of my students eagerly accepts the challenge and is proud of their newly acquired knowledge.
My Project
My students show a great interest in reading independently. Fostering and supporting that interest is key to cultivating a lifetime reading habit. Currently, my classroom does not have a special place for reading. I've created this project in hope of creating a space for them that will enrich their experiences with books.
The rug I'm requesting will not only provide a comfy space for reading, but it will provide a flexible seating opportunity as my students can enjoy a book sitting down or laying down on their belly.
The bins will help us keep our library organized. The whisper phones will encourage reading aloud and give my students the chance to work on pronunciation and fluency.
This project is only the beginning of something bigger! Our reading corner, once finished, will be a place for students to immerse themselves in a book and grow to become strong readers. That can only be accomplished with your support.
