Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing! They love exploring their environment and learning new things. I teach at a Title I/Star School where more than 70% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price meals, and 20% are English Language Learners. Our students come from diverse backgrounds including English Language Learners and military families.
Our students are excited to learn and I want to give them the best possible school experience.
In addition to the school curriculum, my students are learning kindness, patience, and understanding towards all students with various abilities. I want my students to strive for the best and to keep their love of learning alive as they continue in their education.
My Project
My class was newly added this school year due to larger class sizes. My class did not have any books, and all the books I have were donated to us by other teachers, or I have purchased at second-hand stores. We also borrow a lot of books from the library.
Our students love to read books and I want to encourage a lifelong journey of reading by giving them more options.
I want to provide my class with engaging new books that the students will love to read. I would love to have fiction and non-fiction books. I want to fill our shelves with books from authors that we love like Dr. Seuss, Julia Cook, and Jan Brett. We also need biographies and books about life cycles of insects. The non-fiction books will help build background knowledge about subjects that we are learning in class.
Some of our students do not have books in their homes, and do not go to the public library. Our classroom library is an opportunity for students to have access to engaging books. Thank you for supporting our class and helping to make a difference in a child's life.
