I was welcomed to school by 21 shining faces eager to enter the fourth grade. They wondered who their teacher was, which friends would be their classmates, what they would explore, and what this entire school year would bring. As the first day of school began, the first day jitters started to dissipate and we all got to know one another.
We are now on a roll and getting ready to prepare for our year of academics and adventure.
Luckily, on my path to becoming an educator, I have made many friends in the teaching world. Teachers and friends have graciously donated books here and there. I am looking to build our classroom library by stocking it full of current and exciting chapter books, as well as furniture for a comfortable reading nook. With fresh material and a relaxing space, I hope to encourage my students to regularly read, increase their fluency and build their vocabulary.

My Project
I am hoping for funding to create a reading nook in the room, as well as new books. I would love this piece of furniture for my classroom due to its versatility. It serves not only as a bookshelf, but a comfortable seat as well. I will also continue to survey my students to seek books in their interest. This way, they will be much more encouraged to pick up a book. Twenty-one students means twenty-one different personalities. Interests will often overlap, but it is crucial that each students has at least a few books that will catch their eye and capture their attention. Recreational reading will aid fluency, vocabulary, phonics, decoding skills, and hopefully, in turn, their MCAS scores.
