This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
If you can believe it children get tired of hearing their teachers voice during story time and would love to hear a different voice. With read along books on CD, they will be afforded this opportunity. It is my hope to build fluent life long readers. "Today a reader, tomorrow a leader"
The Kindergarten students at my school are very excited about learning to read, they come from various cultural backgrounds.
Due to the fact that approximately 80% of the students come from a household that English is not the primary language spoken often times they have difficulty in learning a second language. Our school is located in a urban area where most of our children qualify for reduced or free meals,
Each student are at different levels of learning but they all require the same tools to build a strong foundation for reading. As a Kindergarten teacher often times our resources are very limited and the struggling reader cannot benefit from some of the more modern tools out there that can help them become successful readers.
Our school is very conscience of the importance of developing life long readers and stress this to our children daily.
My Project
My students need eight read along books with CD. Hearing a book read on tape helps children see how the words on the page can come alive in a fluid, expressive way. It helps them focus on the sounds of words read without interruption and provides a model of fluent reading. Audio books also give an important introduction to listening — a skill that must be mastered in order to learn to read.
As a teacher I could set up the listening center so that two to four children can listen to the same book at the same time. This can provide a wonderful opportunity for children to hear their favorite books read aloud again and again. The more they listen, the greater the likelihood that they will learn new vocabulary words. And, when listening with a special friend, the opportunities for playing creatively and acting out parts of the story are endless.

My goal is to provide my students with the means to gain a love of reading. It is my goal to provide each student with various types of opportunities and these audio books will do just that. By donating to this project you are helping me develop life long readers.
