Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Once you learn to read, you will be forever free" ~ Frederick Douglass. My students are bright and motivated change-makers. They have an incredible desire to grow in their educational endeavors and deepen their love for reading.
My students are 56 fourth graders (separated into 2 classes) who are incredibly intelligent and eager to learn.
My students mean the world to me and I love them dearly. I have had the absolute honor of serving them in 3rd grade and I am excited to work with them this year as 4th graders. Our school is in Downtown San Jose and we have a large population of low income students and English learners. Our school is very driven and pushes students to understand that education opens many doors in life and that they are on a path to college.
My Project
This year in fourth grade, we have many extraordinary units planned to push student's thinking, engage in meaningful discussions, and put them on the pathway to success. My students will use these class sets (Wonder, Sign of the Beaver, and It's All Greek to Me) during 3 different units this year. During these units, students will be working on their reading comprehension skills, expanding their vocabularies, while also practicing reading fluently and accurately with expression. Despite my student's eagerness and yearning to learn, our limited access to resources slows their ability to grow to their maximum potential.
By providing this resource, my students will have an opportunity to achieve incredible results in reading comprehension and as productive members of their communities.
