Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a Title I school in Nevada. The school is able to offer 100% of our students free breakfast and lunch. As a teacher, I noticed that my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. I am looking to keep things engaging and provide my students with a meaningful learning experience.
Sixty percent of my students are reading and writing below grade level.
I am hoping to encourage and motivate my students to embrace their learning experience.
My Project
This project is to help put diverse books into the hands of my students and into my classroom library. Since a majority of my students come from common backgrounds, I believe it is important to open them up to different cultures through reading. Many of my students are also below grade level so the books I've chosen are both age appropriate and enlightening.
My goal for this year is to get all of my students reading at grade level by the end of the school year!
Their daily activities will include reading centers that will allow them to enjoy books at their level and test their knowledge on what they are reading.
I want to cultivate a love of reading inside of my students hearts and that starts with giving them access to books they can read. I want them to feel empowered and confident as they grow into fluent readers through the school year.
